USPSTF Mammography Guidelines Will Lead to Unnecessary Cancer Deaths
As you may know, the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF), a federally-supported body, recently released mammography recommendations that would advise against:
- Routine screening mammography in women age 40-49
- Teaching breast self examinations
- Clinical breast examinations
- Previously recommended routine screening for women 75 years or older
- Annual screening mammograms for women age 50-74 (Recommending screening every OTHER year versus the currently recommended annual screening)
The ACR holds that these recommendations could have deadly effects for women and continues to advise the women begin having annual mammograms at age 40.
